Teenage siblings Luke, Celia, and Austin are dreading their summer vacation. A month cooped up in an RV, touring around the Southwest, with their parents, grandmother, and each other? Pure torture.

My Review

I grew up very poor and never got to go on road trips and always remember envying my friends that would tell about epic journeys and the wacky antics that go along with being with your family on the road for an extended period of time. This novel is a childhood dream that I always dreamed of. I know this is geared towards a younger audience, but it touched me, a woman in her 40s with grown children. I wish I would’ve made family trips like this more of a priority when I had a chance.

The personal stories that each family member tells each night were some of my favorite moments. I’ve always loved hearing stories from my family, especially ones that seem out of character for that particular person, as it makes you see that person through a different lens. I loved reading about the different places that the family went on their adventure, but most of all, I enjoyed the treasure hunt the most. Who doesn’t love a little side mystery?

A Summer to Treasure was such a fun read, and I think this is a wonderful way to send a beautiful message to stop and smell the roses, to be thankful for those that are a blessing in your life, and to get out of your head every once in a while.

My Rating: ★★★★★
