Book Review of 'Never Hire a Hero' by Regina Scott

Happy Friday Bookworms!!

We are on the countdown to Christmas people!  Ten days!!  Can you believe it?!!  I know I can't!

I've surprised myself this year.  Normally I am the queen of procrastination, but this year I've been more on my game, most likely due to the fact that I've been very sick the entire season, so the times that I've been out of bed have been precious and I have no time to waste.  I am not completely done with my shopping, but what I do have is wrapped and under the tree, which is unheard of in my house.  Maybe I'm turning over a new leaf this year.  One can hope, as I hate waiting until the last minute.

One thing I can't wait to share with you is another review!!  The novel that I am highlighting today is not necessarily a Christmas story in and of itself, but there is a Christmas celebration that will put all readers in a festive mood, so I hope you enjoy my thoughts on Never Hire a Hero and that you all have a blessed weekend!

Never Hire a Hero

Title: Never Hire a Hero
Series: Fortune's Brides: Guarding Her Heart #3
Author: Regina Scott
Publisher: Edwards and Williams
Release Date: December 11, 2023
Genre: Sweet Regency Romance

Three children and a marriage of convenience may be his biggest challenge yet

A former elite soldier, Stephen Roth was trained to be ruthless as he served as bodyguard for kings and princes. So why would his English patroness, Lady Belfort, and her cat, Fortune, arrange for him to take a position as the tutor to the heir of Alldene Castle and the boy’s siblings? And why does the children’s mother, Lady Alldene, look at him with shining eyes, as if he could be some sort of hero? This was not the sort of challenge he bargained for!

A peer in her own right, Thea, Countess of Alldene, was raised in Alldene Castle and taught how to rule over it. But nothing prepared her for the death of her husband and the villainy of the man he appointed as guardian for her children. If a tutor with a razor-sharp gaze will prevent that man from taking her sons away from her, she’s willing to put up with Roth’s rough-shod ways.

But the castle holds a secret that may prove Thea’s undoing. When danger threatens, she turns to the one man who might be able to keep them all safe. Could a marriage of convenience over Christmas prove that heroes can turn up in the least likely places?

If you like warm, witty historical romances, with a touch of mystery, then you’ll love this historical romance by an award-winning, bestselling author.

“All readers who love Regency and historical romances need to pick up stories by Regina Scott. The author has never disappointed me. I am very happy to recommend any of her novels.” – Huntress Reviews

About the Book

And Their Numbers Grew

Title: And Their Numbers Grew
Author: Naomi Craig and Donna E. Lane
Publisher: Bear's Place Publishing
Release Date: November 7, 2023
Genre: Biblical Historical Fiction

Four lives. Four destinies. One gospel.

Fans of Mesu Andrews and Connilyn Cossette will love And Their Numbers Grew.

If you love The Chosen, the story continues in And Their Numbers Grew.

Rumors of the risen Christ spread through Jerusalem like a wildfire—and the Sanhedrin is paying attention.

Their efforts to stifle the name of Jesus only fuel the cause until a young Pharisee gets involved, breathing threats of imprisonment—or worse. Stephen’s brutal stoning accelerates the persecution and sends the faithful fleeing the city for their lives.

They are afflicted in every way, but not crushed. As the fledgling church disperses, their numbers continue to grow. Now, the apostles must train the new believers in the ways and words of Jesus—and what it means to live in God's Kingdom here on earth.

The Kingdom of God spreads to Damascus, Joppa, Caesarea, Antioch, and Tarsus through the testimonies of Ananias, Tabitha, and Barnabas. While an outraged Saul sets out for Damascus to arrest them all, the followers press on fervently, with the help of the Holy Spirit—though it may cost them their lives.

Four disciples whose lives are intertwined, told in four novellas, chronicling the birth pains of the early church.

Book Review of 'The Color of Sky and Stone' by Sara Davison

Happy Monday Bookworms!

How was your weekend?  The crud is still lingering with all members of my household, so this weekend was lowkey and kind of perfect.  We were able to get a little cleaning done, get the tree put up (though not decorated just yet), and ate so many Thanksgiving leftovers.  It was pretty great.

I hope you too had a great start to the holiday season yourself and I hope you enjoy my review to kick off the week!  This novel is by one of my favorite authors and is yet another novel that I have fell in love with.  Enjoy!

Book Review of 'A Gateway to Hope' by E.C. Jackson

Happy Black Friday Bookworms!

How was your Thanksgiving?  Ours was pretty low-key since everyone in our house is sick, so we did a small dinner just the four of us, but it was also kind of perfect.  The holiday shows were playing, we all got to spend time together and enjoy each other's company, and my thankfulness was overflowing the entire time.  I truly am blessed, and love when I get those quiet moments to stop and sit in awe.

Are you a Black Friday shopper?  I am more on the last-minute Christmas Eve shopping side of the coin, but this year I am trying to be proactive and am keeping my eyes out for the sales, but that's only happening online. ;)

I hope everyone that celebrated Thanksgiving had a wonderful and blessed day and if you're going out to brave the crowds today, and throughout this holiday season, please be safe, and I hope you enjoy my first review to officially kick off the holiday season!

Hello Bookworms!

Illness continues to befall the Flores household. I finally gave in a few days ago and went to the urgent care and was tested for every virus imaginable.  Thank goodness, I was negative for everything and diagnosed with a severe sinus infection.  Fun!  Two antibiotics later and I am on the mend but only thus.  This nastiness really likes sticking around and now my son is also dealing with the crud.  It never ends...

The only bright spot in my malady is the number of books I have been able to consume, and they are many.  One book that I adored is the second book in the Fox Bakery series, so please enjoy my thoughts, and don't forget to scroll to the bottom and enter the wonderful giveaway from JustRead Tours!

Book Review of 'The Lord and the Lady Astronomer' by Alissa Baxter

Happy Wednesday Bookworms!

We are feeling under the weather here in the Flores household today.  Does anyone else get sick every year when the time changes or is it just me?  I feel like I tend to get sick at the same times every single year and the time changes always seem to be one of those times.  I do not get it whatsoever.  Sadly, this year my youngest also has the crud right along with me, but what is scary for him is he is type 1 diabetic, so getting a cold can be detrimental to him, so I am keeping a close eye on him and am going to get us both into the doctor (hopefully) this afternoon.

Books have always been a comfort and solace during illness in my life and today's novel has been keeping me company as I battle this cold.  It is the third novel in one of my favorite series this year and I am very excited to be sharing my thoughts with you!  I hope you enjoy and that you are all in good health!

Abigail Grantham has always taken a keen interest in astronomy since her brother Sir John Grantham enlisted her aid as a young girl to keep records of his astronomical discoveries. Abigail is delighted when her uncle, Lord Longmore, invites her to stay at Longmore Hall in Buckinghamshire as he needs her assistance to compile a star chart.

When Abigail arrives at the Hall, her Aunt Longmore introduces her to local society. However, Abigail also spends a great deal of time in her uncle’s observatory, viewing the night skies alongside her uncle’s neighbor, fellow astronomer William, Viscount Rochvale.

Lord Rochvale is intrigued by Abigail, and when he discovers that they share an interest in ancient buildings and Roman history, he contrives to become better acquainted with her away from her uncle’s observatory, taking her to places of archaeological interest with a view to winning her heart. But the astronomical project they are working on makes courtship difficult, and William’s plans are further frustrated by his rakish cousin Gerald Burnby, who becomes a frequent visitor to Longmore Hall, seeking out Abigail too.

After a valuable Roman urn disappears from Longmore Hall, a series of mysterious occurrences unravel, presenting a puzzle Abigail has no idea how to solve. Meredith attends the ball with great trepidation. How will she see through the duplicity of the marriage mart and find a man sincere enough to marry her for who she is? She doesn't expect to. When Charles Ballam returns from war, his former commander, Doughty, is determined to see him happily wed—the least he can do after Charles maimed his hand saving his life. The first attempt leads to a humiliating spectacle involving Charles’s injury. He’s loath to ever attend a ball again. Doughty convinces him to try a relatively new, scandalous method: lonely hearts advertisements.

Mr. Amesbury doesn’t approve of such things, but that doesn’t stop his daughter Clarissa or her companion, Mary, from reading them secretly and then strolling past meeting places in hopes of finding the individuals mentioned in them. When an advertisement with striking details appears, Clarissa is certain that the man behind it is one she could have a love match with. She answers, suggesting they meet at an upcoming masquerade. But identities aren’t what they seem, and her future happiness—or spinsterhood—may rest on the man who placed the advertisement . . . or on his mate, who assumes his identity. Instead of being the man of her dreams, he may be nothing more than a deception.

We Made It Bookworms!

Happy Friday!!  Today I am so excited!!  Not only because it's Friday, but because I am going on a mini family camping trip this weekend!  Eek!  The weather is supposed to be cooperative, but I had honestly hoped it would've been just a tad cooler, so it actually feels like fall and not second summer.  Still, I can't wait to see my tribe, eat my weight in marshmallows, and just let loose.  Do you have any plans this weekend?  Let me know in the comments.

Today I am not sharing a review but instead an excerpt from the first book in a new series from author Robin Patchen.  If the cover and excerpt is any indication, it's going to be a phenomenal read.  I hope you enjoy the excerpt, don't forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of this post, and I hope you have a fabulous weekend!!

Sam never understood why Eliza left him five years ago, ghosting him without explanation. He’s avoided romance ever since, focusing on building his business. Money might not keep him warm at night, but it can sure buy a lot of blankets.

Then Eliza shows up on his doorstep and throws herself into his arms. She can’t explain her bruises or the head injury that’s left her with no memories of the past five years, including their breakup. No matter how good it feels to hold her, though, there’s no way he’s getting sucked into romance again.

He’ll deliver Eliza to her mother, and that will be that. But instead of finding her mom, they’re met by two attackers and barely escape alive. Despite the danger to his life and his heart, he can’t leave Eliza to fend for herself.

Together, they embark on a journey to reconstruct her past while evading the men chasing her. As Sam and Eliza close in on the truth, their romance reignites, but her secret threatens to destroy them both.

Book Review of 'Crossroads' by C.C. Warrens

Happy Wednesday Bookworms!

October is in full swing, and I am loving every moment of it!  My little sister's birthday is tomorrow, so of course I have her on my heart, and this coming weekend is another annual family campout that I look forward to every single year.  I feel so blessed to have these people to do life with and cannot imagine where I'd be without a strong support system.

That is one of the many admirable things that I gleamed from today's spotlight novel: the importance of surrounding yourself with people that love and support you.  C.C. Warrens is a new author to me, which is utterly shocking to me because good grief is she amazing!  I will say right here and now that she's go a new fangirl in me and I plan to devour more of her books in the future. :)

With that said, I hope you enjoy my review of Crossroads, and that you have a blessed Wednesday!  Also, don't forget to scroll to the bottom of this post for another incredible giveaway from JustRead Tours!

Book Review of 'Broken Bondage' by Carmen Peone

Happy Taco Tuesday Bookworms!

My oldest son works at a Mexican restaurant and Tuesdays are a big deal there since it is Taco Tuesday.  I've never been one to "celebrate" per se but since he's started working there, and me always freaking out with how crazy busy it always is when I drop him off, I can't help but see Tuesday's in a more festive light now.  Do you celebrate Taco Tuesday?  Leave me a comment below and let me know if you do.  I have an uncle that is seriously obsessed, to the point that it's been years since he hasn't had a taco on a Tuesday. But enough about tacos...

The novel that I am featuring today is one that tackles the heaviest of subject matters, yet I was completely blown away with how simple yet powerful it is.  It was a tough and at times triggering read for me, but one that I am so thankful I gave a chance on.  I hope you enjoy my review of Broken Bondage by Carmen Peone and if you get a chance to eat a taco today by all means eat a taco! :)

Happy Saturday Bookworms!

Today is a gorgeous day in Texas!  It's finally starting to feel like fall and I am loving the vibe!  I am about to head out to our annual family campout but I had to stop in really quick and share a review with you that you need to read this weekend.  It's a novella that has a lot of heart and is the perfect read for a cozy fall weekend, so enjoy my review of Rekindling Hope and I hope you all have a blessed weekend!

Welcome to the Reviewer Tour for Rekindling Hope by Alicia Gilliam, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Title: Rekinding Hope
Series: Seth Browne Novels
Author: Alicia Gilliam
Release Date: September 8, 2023
Genre: Christian Fiction

A birthday pushing forty? He couldn't care less.

Dating for the first time at his age? Yeah, he's taking notes.

Agent Quincy Adams, aka “Q,” is on a mission to educate himself about romantic relationships—and more specifically, the pretty art therapist who’s captured his heart. For now, her signature smile has outlasted his bumbling ineptitude.

Easy-going Hope Montgomery has been sweetly silencing her biological clock, but Christmas separations trigger alarm bells. Is she a patient saint or a hopeless coward?

In a humorous turn of events, struggling newlyweds disrupt Q’s assumptions about the world and inadvertently nudge him toward a second chance for a holiday romance. If you enjoy near kiss misses and light-hearted inspiration, you’re a click away from a two-for-one love story!

NOTE: Rekindling Hope can be read as a standalone, but it is a follow-up to the Seth Browne Novels. Think of it as a Christmas special episode. Some readers can jump right in mid-season; others will better appreciate the story's socially awkward hero by reading the preceding trilogy first.
