Book Review of 'The Cowboy and the City Girl' by Leah Busboom

Hello Bookworms!

It is very rare that I am able to read every book in a series but the Too Busy for Love series captured my heart from the beginning and each new release is always on my radar. I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this novel that released today (HAPPY RELEASE DAY!) from one of my favorite RomCom series to date!

About the Book

Title: The Cowboy and the City Girl
Author: Leah Busboom
Series: Too Busy for Love #9
Publisher: LBRB Consulting
Release Date: May 6, 2025
Genre: Clean RomCom

Her ditzy blonde act serves her well, allowing her to hide in plain sight. Will the handsome cowboy give her a reason to come out of hiding?

Chloe Martin is not who she seems. She’s really best-selling author L. King, whose gritty, gripping political thriller has everyone talking and everyone trying to find her. She’s one of the hottest celebrities on the planet right now, and no one other than her loyal literary agent knows who she is.

With her Louboutin-shod feet planted firmly in the big city, she excels at perpetuating her ditzy blonde ruse. Shopping? Fancy restaurants? Nightlife? Anything to sell the ditzy blonde persona. She frequents all the trendy spots, seemingly only interested in spending money and keeping up her social media status. But when she meets a hunky cowboy, he throws her for a loop, making her want to reveal her true self.

Jethro Wilson has a conundrum. Although he’s attracted to the gorgeous blonde, he thinks her biggest concerns are her social media standing, having a good time, and that her lipstick doesn’t clash with her outfit. She’s a city girl through and through. No. Thank. You. He’s fallen for a woman like this before and he’s not doing it again. Or so he thinks. As he gets to know Chloe, her genuine sweetness and caring heart tugs at his broken one. But the handsome, affable, low-key cowboy is also hiding a secret . . .

Will this presumably incompatible pair discover they’re meant to be together? Or will their secrets keep them apart?

This hilarious rom-com set on a dude ranch in Utah has a group of shenanigan-pulling eight-year-old cowpokes, a grizzled ranch hand who tries to play matchmaker, and return appearances by some of your favorite Too Busy for Love series characters. Get on your cowboy boots, because this story is going to lasso your heart and keep you turning every page.

My Review

I feel like I breezed through this novel in no time. The flow of this story is sheer perfection, and I can tell you this was hands down one of my favorite books in the Too Busy for Love series so far. While you can read this as a standalone, I would highly recommend reading the previous novels in the series as it adds to the richness and depth of the characters and overall storyline. Plus, this is just such a fun, easy-breezy series to dive into!

There is an instant connection between Jethro and Chloe, and their story is about as sweet and sassy as you can get, but all the young campers that take over the ranch are what really captured my heart. Their exuberance was charming and brought out a youthfulness that was refreshing and brought back some wonderful personal memories of summer capers past. Though Chloe is citified and a social media starlet, it’s clear that she is pretty grounded and has a good head on her shoulders. Jethro is Chloe’s perfect pairing, being the perfect cowboy and having a heart of gold.

One of my favorite scenes in this novel was the wedding that kicked everything off. The multitude of cameos from past books was such a fun touch! Seeing everyone get together and celebrate was such a treat and a great reminder of what I love so much about this series. I was missing the klutzy mishaps that normally occur in the Too Busy for Love series, but other than that, this book was wonderful! This is the kind of novel that you reach for when you’re resting and relaxing. Though things are kept surface level, these are characters that lasso your heart, and catching a glimpse of their world is so entertaining and the sweetest escape.
