Book Review of 'The Healing Jar' by Wanda E. Brunstetter

Hello Bookworms!

The May storms have been absolutely plum wild where I’m at, and the storm anxiety is real, but one thing I do to combat my anxious thoughts is to fervently pray, keep my nose in a book, and my eye on the weather.

The book I am featuring today is a novel that really helped me through a particularly rough time and is the first book I’ve been able to read in a series that I’ve been really wanting to dive into for some time. I’m grateful I finally had the opportunity, and I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this wonderful Amish fiction. Also, let me know in the comments what you do to stay safe during spring storms and if you’ve been affected by any of the heartbreaking destruction; my prayers are with you.

My Review

This is such a sweet and encouraging story! There are multiple storylines happening parallel to one another, yet they all ring with the same truths: resilience, faith, and the importance of support.

I am so excited that I finally had the opportunity to read a novel from this series! I am notorious for reading a series out of order, and The Prayer Jar series is no exception, but luckily, these can be read as standalone novels, though I can see how starting from the beginning could be beneficial.

I loved the whole courtship between Jesse and Lenore. Lenore is such a warm and loving character who has the biggest heart, and Jesse, while still overwhelmed with his lost love, clearly mirrors those traits. Not only did I read this novel, but I also listened to the audiobook version, and I loved the audiobook so much! The narrator was great, and it really helped bring this wonderful story to life.

Though there is a wonderful epilogue, I wish there could’ve been more. I feel like it was too short! I wanted more, which is why I am so excited that there are more installments in this series. This is the first novel in the series that I’ve read, but it will not be my last. There were a few characters in this book that piqued my curiosity, and I have a sneaky suspicion that they’re in earlier books, so you better believe I’m going to go back and see.

About the Author

Wanda Brunstetter is an award-winning romance novelist who has led millions of readers to lose their heart in the Amish life. She is the author of over 100 books with more than 12 million copies sold. Many of her books have landed on the top bestseller lists, including the New York Times, USA Today, Publisher's Weekly, CBA, ECPA, and CBD. Wanda is considered one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, and her work has been covered by national publications, including Time Magazine and USA Today.

Wanda's fascination with the Amish culture developed when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite church, and whose family has a Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new Mennonite sister-in-laws caused Wanda to yearn for the simpler life. In their travels, she and her husband have become close friends with many Amish people across America. Wanda's desire to explore their culture increased when she discovered that her great-great grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith.

All of Wanda's novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Many of her books are well-read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.

Wanda's primary attraction to the Amish is their desire to live a devout Christian life that strives to honor God, work hard, and maintain close family ties. Whenever she visits her Amish friends, Wanda finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern "Englishers." Time and time again, Wanda loses her heart in the Amish life, and she hopes her readers will, too.
