2024 was a year of personal reading growth for me.  I branched out to new genres and also started listening to more audiobooks, something I had previously been opposed to.  I will always prefer print but there's something so convenient listening to audiobooks, especially when they're read by the authors themselves, and on a subject that is timely and needed.

My Review

I have been a fan of Rhonda Stoppe for a while and was excited to read her latest book.  This year I will celebrate twelve years married to my wonderful husband, and while up to this point our relationship has been fairly ideal, I’ve noticed the past few years have become more challenging as we enter our empty nest era.  I’ve caught myself during this new season looking inward, and I don’t love everything I see.

To say that my heart was convicted would be an understatement.  As I would listen to particular sections, I would discuss topics with my husband, and he immediately clued in to the fact that my heart was clearly being stirred by what I heard.  He even told our son that I was reading a book that was making me reflect on my role in our marriage. He never brings up books I’m reading, so this alone made me realize that God is already starting to use what I’ve gleaned in this book in my marriage.

Listening to the audiobook itself was great.  The narration is engaging, and the voice was quite soothing as I took the time to listen with an open mind and heart.  This was the mirror I needed to take a god look at myself and see the things I’m doing that hinder and do not help my husband and my marriage.  The “From A Husband’s Perspective” sections at the end of each chapter were invaluable as I heard of some of my own husband’s thoughts and feelings mirrored in these moments and helped me see things from his perspective.  The “Thinking It Through” and “Living It Out” sections also helped me put what I’ve learned into practice, and the numerous Biblical references led me to seek God’s Word and hear what He wants to speak to me.

Listening to If My Husband Would Change I’d Be Happy was a wake-up call for me and is a resource I will reference for years to come.  I can see this being a life-changing resource for many.  It’s so easy to become lax in our relationships and point the finger at everyone but ourselves.  It’s time we make a change, and it begins with us.
