How can we be starting the last week of October?? It seems unreal to me that this season is going by so fast! Since I love a good heart-pounding book I felt like it was fitting for this season to read the novel that I am featuring today and, let me tell you, this was one of the most intense suspense novels I've read in a long time.

My Review

To say I couldn’t put this novel down is an understatement. Every small spare moment I could find I was delving back in. This story is so heartbreaking yet endearing and utterly chilled me to my core, so much so that I physically could not put this book down.

Just like Callum and Phoenix, we are instantly dropped into an active investigation, the stage is quickly set, and they take off on the rescue of a lifetime, hunting a prolific serial killer. This book is intense, and the fact that it deals will endangered children makes it hit all the deeper. We’ve been waiting awhile for Phoenix’s story, and I can honestly say it was worth the wait!

This story is a lot more layered than I thought it was going to be. There is a dark depression that hovers the narrative and at first, I thought it was because of the line of work the main characters are in, but then I realized it goes so much deeper than that. Phoenix is intense, which is understandable considering everything she’s been through in her life, and you can feel this so strongly the entire time you’re reading. The flow is impressive, with its twists and turns quick, the tension not letting up but instead building towards the climax, all while exploring the darkness of the past.

This is clean suspense at its finest. It is dark, deep, and has a great message despite the horrific situation. Jerusha Agen writes Christian suspense like no other! Sleep was lost with this novel, so I must give a warning to be prepared to be reading for a while because it will be next to impossible to put this book down.
