Book Review of 'The Sign of the Calico Quartz' by Jan Drexler

Hello Audiobook Lovers!

I'll be the first to admit that I have only recently became an audiobook lover.  I used to be one of those people whose mind would wander too much while listening and gave up time and time again, but for some reason this year I've listened to several audiobooks while doing mundane tasks and now I look forward to listening to audiobooks, especially when the story is great and the narrator does a wonderful job, like the audiobook I am featuring today.

I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this cute Cozy Mystery and don't forget to scroll to the bottom of this post and enter the amazing giveaway from JustRead Tours.

The Sign of the Calico Quartz audiobook

Title: The Sign of the Calico Quartz
Series: The Sweetbrier Inn Mysteries
Author: Jan Drexler
Narrator: Gillian Wiggin
Publisher: Swift Wings Press
Audiobook Release Date: July 24, 2024
Genre: Cozy Mystery

Solving a murder is easy, right? All you need to do is follow the clues, and they will lead you to the culprit.

At least that’s what Emma Blackwood thought before she and her cat, Tim, came to the Black Hills to work in Aunt Rose’s Sweetbrier Inn. Before she found a dead body in her living room. Before the hunky Deputy Sheriff accused her of murdering the poor guy. And before the real killer put her name on their list of victims.

For this fan of Agatha Christie and a plethora of television crime dramas, it’s an intriguing situation that demands her skills. Investigating might not be as simple as it looks in fictional mysteries, but Emma’s organized mind and OCD tendencies start making sense of the clues…until she finds a second body with no apparent connection to the first.

Sifting through evidence is easier with the help of her new friend, Becky, who provides baked goods for the inn, and Aunt Rose is always willing to take time from writing her mysterious memoirs to give support and advice. Wil, the inn’s chef, moves things along with a barbed comment or two, and Tim the cat and Rose’s corgi, Thatcher, make themselves available for fuzz therapy and to point the way to another clue.

The list of suspects grows as Emma learns more about the inn’s guests and their reasons for visiting the Black Hills. From the honeymoon couple to Mysterious Montgomery, to the famous reality show ghost hunter, to the gold seekers, no one is the person they appear to be. Even Rose’s good friend Clara is hiding secrets in her pink chenille bathrobe.

But as Emma pursues the investigation, things start to get personal. Can she identify the murderer before disaster strikes?

Book Review of 'Brave: The Story of Ahinoam' by Mesu Andrews

Happy Wednesday Bookworms!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week so far.  My world is a little discombobulated due to Hurricane Milton heading straight for Tampa Bay, which is where my mom currently lives.  Her and my stepdad were able to evacuate further inland and more north, but with how massive and powerful this hurricane is the entire state of Florida is under the radar.  My heart goes out to everyone that is in the line of the hurricane, as well as those that are still dealing with the fallout from Hurricane Helene.  I can't help but wonder what my mom will come home to and pray for safety for all.

To keep my mind off of all of this insane weather I dove into an amazing series starter that I can't wait to tell you about, so I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this Biblical Fiction and don't forget to scroll to the bottom of this post and enter the amazing giveaway from JustRead Tours!

Today's featured novel is one that I had been anticipating for a while and it did not disappoint.  I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this Contemporary Christian Romance and don't forget to scroll to the bottom of this post and enter the amazing giveaway from JustRead Tours.

Book Review of 'Maid at Christmas' by Bell Renshaw

Happy Friday Bookworms!

I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this series-starting Christmas Holiday Romance and have a wonderful weekend!

About the Book

Title: Maid at Christmas
Series: Lockwood Lodge #1
Author: Bell Renshaw
Publisher: Pine Mountain Publishing
Release Date: October 15, 2024
Genre: Christmas Holiday Romance

Maid in Manhattan meets Safe Haven in this Hallmark Christmas-style series starter, Maid at Christmas, featuring sweet romance and a cozy holiday atmosphere with just a touch of tension.

She wants a fresh start. He's looking for purpose. Can Christmas at the Lockwood Lodge show them the future is brighter than the past?

When Sonora Jackson searches for a way out of New Orleans—and away from her ex-fiancé—she ends up exchanging beignets for a broom when she accepts a position in housekeeping at the Lockwood Lodge. The picturesque mountains of Vermont, and the luxury of the lodge at Christmastime, is exactly what she needs, but she didn’t bargain for the handsome, bookish man she meets there.

Graham Hastings needs a vacation more than he needs the worry over selling his company, but the two come hand in hand as he arrives in Vermont for an exclusive retreat for others just like him: billionaires. Focused on relaxing and recovering from yet another failed relationship, he’s not ready for the near-instant attraction he feels for Sonora. At least she’s like him—rich—and not likely to date him for his money.

Set against a snow-drenched backdrop of Vermont mountains and the quaint small town of Middlebrook with its own set of quirky characters, love blooms even as the truth separates. Can Sonora admit her status as a low-income maid and explain why she lied? Will Graham see past her profession to the heart of her feelings for him? And will he be able to keep her safe when her past comes calling?

Maid at Christmas is the first book in the Lockwood Lodge sweet romance series. This small-town holiday romance features tropes like billionaire romance, age gap, and he falls first. There is a slight suspense thread included in this book, but it does not overshadow the cozy Christmas setting or aspect of sweet romance.
