Hello Bookworms!
Today is a very special day in the Flores household as we celebrate my youngest son’s birthday!! One of the greatest joys in my life is my boys, and I am so grateful that I get to spend his special day with him. Having grown children, it’s not always a guarantee that you get to celebrate with them in person, and I do not take this precious gift for granted.
While I am partying with my family, you can read my thoughts on this intense Romantic Suspense! Have a safe and fun weekend bookworms!

Author: Angela Carlisle
Publisher: Bethany House Publishers
Release Date: July 1, 2025
Genre: Chrisitan Romantic Suspense
A haunting attack. A killer in the shadows. A protective love.
Murder--that's what photographer Allye Jessup knows she witnessed as she departed her studio one evening. Waking with bruises on her neck and a foggy memory, she believes she survived an attack, but everyone seems to think she simply sustained a head injury from falling down the stairs outside her studio. Plagued by an undiagnosed health condition, she is torn between the haunting reality of what she may have seen and the possibility that her mind is playing tricks on her.
Without proof the other victim ever existed, Detective Eric Thornton can hardly declare the area a murder scene. Still, he adds Allye's report to his already full caseload. But when new evidence surfaces to support her claims, Eric must stay one step ahead of a ruthless killer and uncover the truth before the suspect closes in on Allye again.

Shadowed Witness is one of those stories that are equal parts heartfelt and maniacal. Allye is savagely attacked, but no one believes it was anything more than a nasty fall. Eric’s latest case has shaken him to his core and has left two young boys without a home. Together, they uncover more than what either of them bargained for.
The psychological aspect of this novel is truly mind-bending, as it’s hard to decipher if what is happening to Allye is truly happening or if it is all in her head. This is what I enjoy the most about psychological thrillers, as they keep the reader on their toes and make the possibilities of where the story could take you endless.
There is a moment that Allye breaks down and cries out to God, praying in anguish that I felt in my soul. Her health struggles almost mirror my own exactly, and in that moment, despite her being a fictitious character, I felt a connection that stayed with me the entire time I was reading. It was nice to be seen, even if only through literature, though seeing my issues in black and white made parts difficult for me to read. Anyone who’s struggled with undiagnosed medical issues will understand.
The writing is great as we get into the minds of both Eric and Allye, and there are some pretty intense moments, particularly the last quarter of the novel. While I had my suspicions about who was behind everything, I was mostly surprised by the perpetrator and their motivations, which was a nice surprise. All in all, this was a great, clean, suspenseful read with fleshed-out characters, an interesting plot, and a message that proves that a little faith and perseverance will go a long way.
