My Review

I am beyond grateful for the authors who write a series that can be read as a whole or as a standalone, and Lisa Phillips does this to perfection. True to form, I jumped into this series on the sixth and final installment of the Chasing Fire: Alaska series without reading any of the previous books, and not once did I feel lost. It was easy to escape into the narrative despite coming in blind, being six books deep, and these characters clearly having a deep history rooted in trauma and drama.

Maria has been searching for her father for years. The poor guy has been held captive for his talents, and Maria and her firefighting team will stop at nothing to find him. From the start, it’s clear that they are getting close, and I felt that feeling of apprehension instantly. This is a daughter that is desperate and will let nothing come between her and her mission, and that includes the feelings that are clearly sparking between her and fellow firefighter, Kane.

Kane has clearly been through it and is one of those characters I would love to find out more about. It’s clear this man has an interesting backstory and has the weight of the world on his shoulders, and for good reason, but his faith also glimmers from the pages and shines with the message of hope.

I do plan on going back and reading the rest of the series soon, as it’s clear there is something special about the Chasing Fire series. The writing is fast-paced yet impactful, putting you into the action and danger, while also giving a powerful testimony and ending this series in a way that sticks with you long after its gratifying conclusion.
