Book Review of 'Into the Spotlight' by Leslea Wahl

Hello Bookworms!

This summer has been a whirlwind that only seems to be amping up in speed along with the rising heat. As a child, I looked forward to summer so much, but the older I get, the more I appreciate each season for what it offers. With summer, I love all the sunshine, the easy breezy vibes, but what I love the most is all the books I am able to consume.

The novel I am featuring today is from a series that I’ve already dipped into before, but true to form, I started midway through, but I was finally able to go back to the beginning and see how it all began. I hope you enjoy my thoughts and let me know in the comments if you’ve read any books from this series or if you have any fun plans this weekend.

My Review

In true fashion, I started the Finding Faith series midway through, and I thought it was high time to go back to the beginning and see how it all began. This book takes on a unique perspective that I’ve never really thought about before now: how do children of authors, particularly YA authors, deal with their parents’ novels? Is there ever any backlash or ridicule like what’s covered in the book, or is it a non-issue? I would be curious to know because if anything like what happened to Josie, then my heart goes out to them because this sounds like a nightmare.

This novel has intrigue and mystery while also having that youthful innocence and lightheartedness that makes me love reading a YA. I adored all of the theater references and the delicious summer feels that were over the narrative. I haven’t been to the beach in months and miss it so much, so reading this gave me a little taste of one of my favorite places to be.

There are so many good scenes that stick out in my mind, and this story took a turn I wasn’t expecting, which was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. There was even a scene that I audibly chuckled at. This is when I knew this novel was a winner. Since this was a summer read for me, I had to jump in and out quite a bit, but this was also the perfect story to read at my leisure. It’s got innocence, mystery, and a lot of realism and heart. I came into this novel already enjoying this series, and this novel made me fall in love even more.

My Rating: ★★★★★
