Book Review of 'The Wrong Seat' by Natasha D. Frazier

Happy Thursday Bookworms!

How can the first week of April already be almost over!  I don't know about you guys but this year is speeding by so fast and I can't seem to wrap my head around it!  This weekend not only will I be celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, I will also be gathering all my lovely documents and getting ready to file my taxes.  It's something I procrastinate on every year, and 2023 is no exception.  The deadline is fast approaching and I've barely made a dent, so instead of relaxing this weekend I will be buried under tons of financial receipts when I am not celebrating.

Speaking of celebrating, I was ecstatic when I saw The Wrong Seat on my TBR list last week.  I have been enjoying the Langston Sisters series, and couldn't wait to see where the story takes us next.  Let me tell you, I was not disappointed!  Read on to hear all my thoughts on the second book in the series and keep scrolling to see how you can win some book swag from JustRead Tours!

Life doesn't return to normal for the Langston Sisters...

Compelled to get her family’s business back on solid ground after Crystal's arrest tanks their company's sales and reputation, Ava shoulders the responsibility to secure the biggest deal Langston Brands has had since inception. However, someone doesn’t like the idea and poisons her to thwart her mission.

Ava’s father hires The Four Kings private security firm to protect Ava from the ongoing threats. When Zack Kingsland takes the job, he does so reluctantly. He’s been out of the field for five years since his last job cost him his ex-wife. Now that he’s back in the thick of things, he finds that he not only needs to protect Ava, but also his heart.

A man of his word, Zack won’t compromise his assignment or Ava’s safety, not even for the growing feelings he has for her. How can Ava and Zack navigate their feelings without losing sight of the mission—to keep her safe?

The Wrong Seat (Ava's story) is book 2 in The Langston Sisters series.

My Review

The Wrong Seat takes us back to the Langston family, and Langston Brands in particular.  Crystal is back at the helm, but the clean up from the fallout in book one isn’t going as smoothly as the family would like, so Ava steps in to help get the handbag company back in the green.  The problem is there are allegations that their production center in Cambodia is a literal sweatshop, something that Ava hopes to prove as false while she tries to secure one of the biggest deals in the company’s history.  Oh, and did I mention that someone is also trying to kill her while she’s trying to get all of this business drama figured out?  Talk about a stressful situation!

Zack, and his brother’s company The Four Kings, is hired to keep an eye on the Langston sisters while they find out where the threats are coming from.  Zack lost his wife a few years prior and it is with her that his heart still lies, which is why it is jarring when Zack and Ava share a spark of attraction with one another.  As Zack protects Ava their friendship organically grows, and I am here for it!  I love when I see characters that are so natural together and share such a great bond from the beginning.  Both Zack and Ava are such good souls, and I love that they share their faith by living what they believe, making this aspect natural to the characters, and not at all forced.

The Wrong Seat is hands down my favorite novel in this series so far.  It truly felt like this is a situation that could actually happen, which is terrifying when you think about it.  Though this is part of a series you do not have to read the first book to understand what is going on.  Each novel is its own unique story for that particular sister, but to get the entire picture of the Langston sisters I recommend reading the first novel as well.  I love the mystery behind the threats, the unspoken tension emanating from the situation, and was actually a little taken aback when it’s revealed who the perpetrator is.  Who doesn’t love a fun little twist at the end?

I can’t wait to see what Layla’s story is going to entail, as she is my favorite of the Langston sisters, and see what the author has up her sleeve for the last book of the series.  The Wrong Seat was a quick and engaging read that I highly recommend.

About the Author

Natasha D. Frazier fell in love with love around the age of twelve because of artists like Babyface, Boys II Men, Whitney Houston, and New Edition. Around sixteen when her mother purchased a romance novel and left it lying around the house untouched, Natasha read it and a spark for the written word had been ignited.

Natasha believes that writing is one of her purposes and contributions to the world. She feels accomplished when she can get a few words written and like blah when life gets in the way. Her hope is that at the end of every novel, readers will feel like they’ve been wrapped in a cozy blanket with a mug of their favorite coffee/tea/warm drink.

When she isn’t reading or writing, she is likely watching movies with her family. Natasha resides in Richmond, TX with her husband, Eddie Frazier, Jr. and their three children, Eden, Ethan, and Emilyn. Her greatest joy and commitment is to her family who she hopes to inspire above all else. One of her many mottos in life is: Faith removes limitations. Natasha and her family attend Parkway Fellowship in Richmond, TX, where she volunteers as a small group leader for elementary students. Natasha is also a member of the Houston Area Alumni Chapter of Jackson State University and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
