My Review

Easter has a new look this year when Kayla Swartz gets an unexpected message from her estranged father, asking her to come and pick up her little half sister, and not giving any reason as to why.  All she knows is that it’s urgent she comes right away, but she soon realizes that her father’s situation is not just urgent but life threatening.

The mystery and suspense hits the ground running from the first sentence and that pressure doesn’t let up the entire time you’re reading.  The characters are believable as is what they’re struggling with, and even certain scenes mirrored actual events in my own life.  For instance, the indoor Easter egg hunt.  I remember on year where my family had to do something similar when we had some severe spring storms roll through and my mom did an indoor hunt to help keep our minds on the rowdy weather.  Good times.

There were moments that I found myself truly frustrated, especially with the sheriff, but then there were moments that were touching.  This novel really does have all the feels, even if it is way too predictable.  I found myself hoping for a twist that never came, which was disappointing, but that didn’t take away from the fact that I was charmed by this story, or the fact that I devoured this novel within mere hours.

My Rating: ★★★★
