Perfectly Arranged was nothing like I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise. Taking a trip around the world on an unexpected adventure and revealing secrets of a mystery that has been buried deep for decades is just what struggling professional organizer Nicki Mayfield didn’t realize she needed. After a chance phone call and a temporary job leads to a ticket to China, what Nicki believes is her goal ends up turning into something else entirely. It just goes to show that you truly can find your heart’s desires in the most unexpected and unpredictable places.
I enjoyed learning more about Chinese culture and loved that this wasn’t a love story in the traditional sense. This is love for the unloved, seeing those that are forgotten, and becoming whole when you’ve always felt broken. I found a kindred spirit in Nicki, with our shared love of organization, order, and even our opinion of the Marie Kondo method, but her fearlessness is something I can only dream of being. How she stands up for what she believes in, leads with her heart, and breaks rules that need to be broken for the greater good.
Perfectly Arranged is the first book in the Hopeful Hearts series, and I am eagerly awaiting the second installment, as there are so many avenues that are left to be explored. I am hoping for deeper character development and just maybe a budding romance between two certain individuals that clearly have a connection. If it’s anything like this novel it’s going to be another wonderful journey with flawed but lovable characters, writing that immerses you in the narrative, and tackles some deeper subject matter with immense heart.
Liana George is a professional organizer and the owner of By George Organizing Solutions in Houston. She is also a sought-after speaker, blogger, and writer. With the help of her writing coach, Sandra Byrd, Liana completed her first novel, Perfectly Arranged. The book was inspired by one of her eccentric clients and her passion for China, where she lived for two and a half years. When she’s not putting things in order or scribbling away, you can find her reading, traveling, or playing tennis.
