In a killer’s sights after she witnesses her sister’s murder, Christy O’Malley’s only option is to flee to Amish country—and the estranged husband she left behind. But there’s something Sam Burkholder doesn’t know—they have a daughter. With enemies closing in, Sam will do anything to protect Christy and their little girl…but can he forgive the past for a chance to be a family for Christmas?
One of my holiday traditions is to read Christmas novels during the Christmas season, and Amish Christmas Escape was one of my picks this year. I have enjoyed the few books I’ve read in the Amish Country Justice series, and this novel was no exception. Each book can be read as a standalone, though they each have similar flavors and vibes, which is why I felt like I was reading a story that I’ve read before.
There were a few interesting tidbits that did amplify the mystery and suspense, which I greatly appreciated. Christy and her mysterious family history, plus the whole unexplained reason why she’s been chased in the first place, fueled the mysterious fire. What type of person would chase after a woman, and attempt to murder her, while she is with a young child?!
The sweet and tender chemistry between Sam and Christy added to my reading enjoyment. Though the situation wasn’t ideal it did lead to truths being revealed and past hurts being forgiven. I loved seeing their relationship blossom, and felt it was the perfect addition to the suspense. The fact that this is a clean read did not diminish the mystery, and was a pretty quick read, especially the more I read and became more vested in the characters.
Amish Christmas Escape is the perfect weekend read and a wonderful addition to this sweet, suspenseful Amish series.
