My Review 🖤
Wow! Wow! Wow!! It's been awhile since I've had a novel capture my imagination and heart like In the Shadow of Your Wings did. JP Robinson, where have you been all my life???
Typically World War I is not a subject that I feel drawn to, and honestly haven't read too many historical novels from this setting, but Mr. Robinson changed all that! Though heavily character driven, I never felt lost, and was instantly entranced in this war saga that shows multiple, diverse characters amid a truly depressing backdrop: the heart of World War I.
As you witness members of the British and German communities coming into the war in various roles, you see a first-hand account of each individuals points of view. So many lives changed, and so much war, but the author does a magnificent job of keeping things PG without losing the impact of the ravages of war. There are some pretty gruesome subject matter that is tackled, but that's to be expected during a war.
So many emotions swirled through me as I read each account, hungry to find out each outcome, the suspense sheer perfection. Not everything is resolved within this novel, and I actually ended this book and instantly downloaded the next installment and continued my reading. Gotta love technology!!
One thing that really struck me in In the Shadow of Your Wings was the pride that several individuals had from killing so many people. Truly sickening yet sadly many have felt that way, which boggles my mind.
I lost so much sleep reading this novel, the writing absolutely incredible. I highlighted so many inspiring quotes that it's almost overwhelming to pick which one was my favorite. I was absorbed like no other and cannot wait to see the saga continue in In the Midst of the Flames.

My Review 🖤
How have I never heard of JP Robinson before?? Wowza!! Talk about some incredible storytelling!! In the Shadow of Your Wings, book one in the Northshire Heritage series was one that instantly stole my heart and imagination, hungrily devouring the novel, and loved that when I was done that book two was already ready for me to read. I seriously can't imagine having to wait for this installment.
In the Midst of the Flames picks up right where book one leaves off, which I greatly appreciated, and continues to follow my two favorite characters, Leila and Malcolm, as well as adding some new names and faces to war that continues to wage not only in Europe, but also in the hearts of each player.
The ravages and casualties of war is always a tough pill to swallow, but the author again skillfully handles it all with grace and in a way that gives you the view without being overly graphic. The suspense is unparalleled, JP Robinson truly having a gift for leaving the reader on the edge of their seat almost constantly.
In the Midst of the Flames had one particular storyline that did grate on me a bit, but that has nothing to do with the writing, but more of the subject is a very touchy one for me, so those parts I skimmed through, but overall this novel was of the same caliber as In the Shadow of Your Wings, so fluid in fact that it feels like one continuous novel. The character depth is unmatched and the overall storytelling ins mystically spellbinding and hard to put down. I cannot wait to get my hands on book three and see how everything plays out!!

My Review 🖤
I can honestly say I've never read a Christian historical fiction series like the Northshire Heritage series before. JP Robinson, I applaud you! You have a forever fan in me, and cannot wait to get my hands on more of your novels. The depth of the character-driven books are unmatched, the levels of not only what is historically occurring, but also what is transpiring inside each individual is incredible.
In the Dead of Night again picks up where book two ends, continuing the saga of the Great War, and the many players that are wrapped up in its evil snares. The deep study that must've transpired to bring to life such a sad commentary is apparent, as we witness the ravages of war.
One thing I haven't mentioned in my previous reviews of this series is the faith aspect. I love seeing the principles of the Christian faith being fleshed out, showing that no one is perfect, and that God's grace abounds, even during a war that is killing thousands, and bringing about pain, sorrow, and suffering. Such a beautiful picture! I especially love the author's notes at the end that go into greater detail for his motivations. Very inspiring!
I hated to see this incredible story end, and barely put the book down, devouring the pages, but feel so incredibly privileged to be able to read this remarkable series. The action, the drama, and the faith all intertwined so perfectly made me sigh with contentment. I wish all novels could be this satisfying to read and am thankful to JP Robinson and his unparalleled storytelling.
