Book Review: Road Trip by Evangeline Kelly

Release Date: May 1, 2016
Genre: Christian Short Story

When college student, Kendra Hensley’s car breaks down she knows she needs a solution—fast. Her cousin Chloe’s wedding is the following day and she needs to get from Northern California to Los Angeles. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have enough money to fix her car, much less buy a bus ticket. When Jake Bellomy, the hot Biology lab partner from last semester, offers to give her a ride home, she takes him up on his offer, even though she knows things are bound to get tense since he traded her for another partner in their Biology class. Kendra knows he’s a jerk, but what she doesn’t realize is that God has a way of revealing that people aren’t always what they appear to be.

My Review 💛

I forgot how much I love reading short stories and Road Trip was the perfect length for me, during this busy holiday season, and was sheer perfection!  Despite the length, I still felt a connection to Jake and Kendra, understanding their situations, and feeling the heart and chemistry between the two.

A misunderstanding, and a broken-down car, lead to an unlikely road trip between two acquaintances, and makes for an entertaining, and eye-opening, journey.  I adored Kendra's snakiness and penchant for drama and Jake's good-natured humor, but what really drew me in was their compassionate hearts, and how they both live what they believe.  Very refreshing!

If I had one complaint, it is that it wasn't long enough!  I cannot recommend this short story enough!  A quick read that is well written, full of heart, and utterly enjoyable.

My Rating: ★★★

About the Author

Evangeline Kelly is the pen name I use to write contemporary Christian romance books. When I was a kid, I had two dreams. One was to work with at risk youth and the other was to write books. After pursuing my passion of working with foster children for over twenty years, I finally decided to pursue my childhood dream of writing.

I love a good book that draws you in and takes hold of your heart. When I write, I hope to show real life situations people go through and how God uses those situations to draw us closer to Himself.

I’ve witnessed suffering in my line of work, but I’ve also witnessed God’s redeeming love. A good Christian romance features both hardship and delight. My hope is that my stories not only entertain, but encourage, and most of all, that they bring glory and honor to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
