Book Review of 'Girl Lost' by Kate Angelo

Happy Monday Bookworms!

I am a bridesmaid in a wedding this fall, and we are doing all of the decorating ourselves. I have been recruited to do several DIYs and while it hasn't all been smooth sailing, I will say that I am enjoying the process more than I thought I would. What is it about making something with your own hands that is so satisfying? While taking breaks from all the craftiness as well as the usual busyness of the season, I have been able to sneak in some reading and have been enjoying some amazing reads.

I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this Christian Mystery & Suspense and let me know in the comments how your August is going so far.♥︎

Luna Rosati found acceptance and a family during childhood, but when she became pregnant at seventeen, she gave the baby up for adoption and left without a word. Now a CIA counterintelligence officer, Luna wants to reconcile her fractured sense of self by finding the only blood family she has left--the teenage daughter she's never met. Her mentor, Stryker, promises to reveal her daughter's identity, but first Luna must meet him in the old neighborhood, the last place she wants to be. Then Stryker is captured.

Special Agent Corbin King changed his surname to escape the shadow of his convicted father serving a life sentence. When he runs into Luna, the object of his failed teenage romance, the two must put their pasts aside and work together toward a greater mission. But when they encounter a kidnapping, missing bodies, and murder, the secrets Corbin and Luna are keeping from one another are only the beginning of the threat they face with more than their own lives at stake.

My Review

Luna has enough emotional baggage to fill a house, and it’s quickly apparent why. There is a lot about her past that is unfinished, and she’s a woman on a mission. There are some pretty intense moments as Corbin and Luna are deep in their parallel investigations. While it did take me a bit to warm up to this story, once I was hooked, I had to fight to tear myself away as there is lots of action and heart-stopping scenes that had me mesmerized, particularly from the midway point and beyond.

Truth be told, this story captured my imagination before I knew what was happening. As the story progressed, the narrative enraptured me with unpredictability and suspense that tightened the tension with every page turned. The mysteries that are unraveled were much more sinister than I had expected, and the truth was positively twisted. The last half of the book went so hard, and I was locked in. There were some gruesome discoveries and twists I was not expecting and more than made up for the slower start.

I appreciated the message mixed with the mystery, showing how much fear can hold you in bondage. Growing and changing while extending grace and forgiveness is key in this Christian fiction, and that powerful message paired with a mind-bending investigation made Girl Lost one of my favorite reads this year.

My Rating: ★★★★★
