Book Review of 'The Tiny Crown' by Susan Barnett Braun

Happy Friday Bookworms!

This week has been wonderful for me as I have been able to spend time with my beautiful mother, who is in town from Florida!  I have been soaking up all the moments and enjoying making new memories while reminiscing about the past, which has left me feeling nostalgic.  When I get in this mood I always seem to reach for YA reads, like the novel I am featuring today.

I hope you enjoy my thoughts on this Fantasy YA and I hope you have an amazing weekend!

What if you woke up to the life you'd always dreamed of? Lucinda is discontent. At 16, she faces problems at home, challenges at school, and an aching emptiness where romance should be. Surely, everything would be better in England, right? A sudden trip to the Land of Hope and Glory offers more than Cinda has ever hoped for--and maybe more than she bargained for.

My Review

Things have been a little heavy in my life lately, and I was wanting a light escape to a fantasy world that is nowhere near what my reality looks like right now, which is why I was so excited to read The Tiny Crown.  I adore time travel tropes, and this one had me particularly intrigued as I adore learning about England’s history and the royal family.  I feel like this story perfectly encapsulated a young girl’s experience and would love to see this concept in a more adult environment, as the entire premise is incredibly intriguing.

Cinda gets to experience something that I feel like many of us have dreamt about at one time or another, so to see it from her unique perspective was neat.  The whole time I was reading, I thought about the dreams I’ve had in my past that were so lucid I truly thought they were real.  The thing about dreams is they’re fantasy, and as The Tiny Crown shows, reality is seldom like fantasy.

To say I enjoyed this novel is an understatement.  It has a youthful, fresh feel and was the sweetest, most perfect escape, and while it’s geared towards the youth, this middle-aged woman enjoyed it immensely.

My Rating: ★★★★★
