Finding love at Death’s Door might destroy them both.
CHICAGO, Ill., 1931—Gabriella Salatino, an illustrative journalist for the Di Stasio Giornaliste Agency, never planned to return to her island home at the tip of Wisconsin’s Door Peninsula. Nor did she plan to witness a murder. But when her life is threatened, she has no choice but to hide out under the protective care of the man she left behind.
Deputy Andri Jóhannsson has been coming to Gabby’s rescue his entire life, but having her in his secluded home tests the limits of his patience. The woman has no sense of self-preservation, and he has a smuggling ring to ferret out. Except, her skill with sketchpad and pencils might be the very investigative tool he needs in order to catch the bootleggers.
With a murderer on her trail and criminals evading detection, Gabriella and Andri must set aside the past or risk its eruption. Because this time, the collateral damage might include more than losing their friendship. It might cost them the lives of those they love.
La Verità con Integrità. Truth with Integrity. The Legacy of a (Girl) Stunt Reporter.

After falling in love with Undercover Wish, the prequel in the Di Stasio Giornaliste Agency series, I couldn’t wait to start reading Eyewitness Sketch, and it did not disappoint. This novel focuses on Gabriella Salatino, an illustrative journalist with the agency, who finds herself in a bit of trouble and returns to her hometown of Heima Island after being away for years. Who happens to be at her home but Deputy Andri Jóhannsson, with whom she has some unfinished business with. The last thing Gabby wants to do is bring trouble home with her, but when her life is on the line, what choice does she have?
Second-chance romances aren’t a favorite of mine, but it’s hard not to love Andri and Gabby, especially when they’re teamed up together. They are both genuinely good people that are just wanting to bring justice to the world, and I love them for it. Freya, Andri’s faithful canine companion, was a highlight and one of my favorite aspects of this novel. I also appreciated the mystery and sense of urgency as the narrative sped to the climax and conclusion of the story, though the outcome was not as much of a surprise as I’d hoped.
One thing I will always give Danielle credit for is adding juicy historical tidbits into her stories, which I always find fascinating. Anything having to do with bootlegging, especially during this era, is always appealing to me. I adore this series so far and cannot wait for the next installment!!
