Seb didn’t think he could wait any longer, not without losing his mind. He didn’t mention losing his mind to the little escapee from the asylum.
Crossing her arms, she studied the stream of water, the wall of snow, the fist dents. “You’re right—we can do it. And it’s spring now. Granted, it’s early spring, but spring nonetheless.” She turned to him, her gaze different now. She seemed to be studying him. “It’s as wrong as it can be for the two of us to ride off together, to travel together—an unmarried man and woman.”
Seb stared right back at her, and he knew exactly what she was thinking. Same thing he was.
They both spoke at once. “We have to take Beth and Jake along for propriety’s sake.”
“We need to get married.”
Kat’s eyes widened when she realized what he’d said. She opened and closed her mouth, not unlike a landed trout. She was so shocked, he almost laughed. Except he was a little insulted that his proposal had come as such a shock. No, a lot insulted.
She said, “I think we’d better get out of here soon because I’m about a week away—maybe an hour away—from needing to be locked up for real.”
