Happy Friday! Today I am mixing things up a bit and featuring a novel that is out of my normal genre pool. This year has been about broadening my horizons and reading out of my comfort zone. I'm not normally a fan of high fantasy, but Brett Armstrong drew me into this world and wow...what an experience!

My Review

To say that I was out of my element when I picked up this novel is a tremendous understatement. Epic fantasy is not normally in my genre wheelhouse, but I’ve been trying to get out of my comfort zone and read other genres, so when the opportunity rose to read Resurgence of Dawn, I took it.

I can appreciate that the author gave a review of the previous novels in ‘The Story So Far…’ to get the reader up to speed if they’re jumping into the series midway through, like myself. I quickly realized that this overwhelmed me too much and opted to skim the review, and even doing this helped as I didn’t feel too lost when I got into the narrative, thanks to the amazing writing of Brett Armstrong.

On a normal day I am a speed reader but this novel I had to slowly devour, trying to absorb every detail, so it took me quite a bit longer to finish than I am accustomed. This is a rich, detailed world that is ripe with elements that are full of imagination and uniqueness that you can’t find in other types of fiction.

I loved seeing the whisper of faith that flowed throughout this story and felt the heart and passion coming off the pages. This wasn’t just another read, but an experience like no other. Since this is the last of the series, I now know how it ends, so when I go back to read the rest of the series, I can put the pieces of the puzzle backwards. I actually love that, and it adds another exclusive detail to my unique reading experience.

Whether you’re a fan of fantasy or not you will enjoy this novel and the rich world created within its pages. Highly recommend!
