Book Review of 'Love in the Squared Circle' by Heather Greer

Happy Monday Bookworms!

Today kicks off my birthday week! *cue the confetti

In all honesty, the most celebrating I normally do is going to eat somewhere, you know, the typical adult birthday celebration, but with me being on a special diet I'm not sure how that's going to look this year.  Even if I don't get to do anything particularly special, I thank God on this day for giving me another year, and honestly that's enough.

I am also excited to kick off this week with a book review!!  I have another swoony contemporary romance that I absolutely fell in love with, so read on, and don't forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the post!

Title: Love in the Squared Circle
Author: Heather Greer
Publisher: Scrivenings Press
Release Date: April 19, 2022
Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance

Trinity Knight is not a fan of professional wrestling. But with her husband gone, it falls to her to give their son the father-son trip they daydreamed about when he was alive. After Trinity causes them to miss a meet and greet with Jay’s favorite wrestler, a random act of kindness saves the trip and starts Trinity on an unexpected path.

Universal Wrestling Organization Champion Blane Sterling hears whiny children at photo ops all the time. However, overhearing a young boy comfort his mother piques his interest. Touched by their story, Blane works with the UWO Public Relations team to give Jay the experience of a lifetime. As they learn each other’s stories, Trinity and Blane are drawn to each other.

But they don’t just come from different states. They live in different worlds. Trinity might learn to fit into his life, but can those in her world look beyond Blane’s profession to see his heart? Or will a lack of acceptance cause Trinity and Blane to lose their shot at love?

My Review

I am a sucker for a good sports romance novel and I am happy to say that this is the first wrestler-based novel that I’ve read!  I’ve never really been a fan of wrestling, with the exception for a brief time in my early 20’s when I was dating someone that was very much into the sport, and I found myself submersed in that world.

Blane Sterling is the wrestler with the tough exterior that has a heart of gold.  A man after God’s heart, he lives his truth, so it’s no wonder that widower Trinity Knight takes notice.  They both bring out the best in one another and watching their relationship grow organically was so sweet!  The cherry on top is Trinity’s extremely energetic eight-year-old son, Jay.  I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose your father and hero when you’re only eight years old, so it’s no surprise that Jay is mature beyond his years, while still holding onto his innocence.  Seeing the three of them together makes quite the trio, and were some of my favorite parts of the story.  To see their faith fleshed out it was truly inspiring, as well, as they live their faith unapologetically.

The overall flow of the story, as well as the writing,  is pure perfection and the story feels so authentic you’d think this is a true story.  There is emotion and elation as Blane and Trinity figure out how to balance life with Blane’s unique career while also navigating a new relationship, something we can all relate to.

While I’ve always known that wrestling was staged and choreographed, I also know that it still takes a lot of skill to do what they do, so I always had an adoration and respect for these performers.  Reading the action of the wrestling matches took me right back to the brief time in my life when I was a fan, and I enjoyed the experience so much.

This was such a sweet and fulfilling read that I cannot recommend enough.  Family, faith and wrestling abound in Love in the Squared Circle, and I loved every moment.
