About the Book
Title: Her Surprise Hometown MatchI recently finished a very heavy and thought-provoking novel and was is desperate need of a palette cleanser, so I picked up Her Surprise Hometown Match for a sweet escape.
Juliette is the local hero thanks to a heroic act that occurred when she was in high school, and all these years she feels like she’s living a lie. Ty is a rodeo rebel who needs a change of pace after his brother was diagnosed with a debilitating illness. This is where they find one another and the magic begins.
One thing that bothered me about Juliette was her obsession with being the hometown hero, and how in her mind this is a lie. For someone that didn’t want the moniker she sure harps on it quite a bit. Whether she felt like a hero or not is irrelevant, in my opinion. She was in the right place at the right time and should accept the honor with grace and not let it become an obsession.
Ty and Juliette are sugary sweet together, and I am here for it! Ty’s recklessness and spontaneity is a detriment until it’s paired with the predictable and rigid Juliette, and then the sparks start flying! All the emotions come to play as they figure out their feelings, while Juliette wrestles with her secret, which makes for quite an entertaining read.
One thing I appreciated was seeing a character with Aspberger’s syndrome. My youngest son also has Asperger’s and it is not something that I see represented often. The bond that Juliette and her sister Ivy share is so sweet, though I will say that I did feel like Ivy was a tad smothered by her older sister. One thing I’ve learned having a child with Asperger’s is that they appreciate their freedom just as much as they need their routines, and wanted to be that friend that tells Juliette to back off a bit. If you can’t tell already Juliette is pretty intense.
Hands down my favorite part of this novel was the town matchmaking group!! Matchmaking is a troupe that always reels me in, and this side story is no exception. It’s such a fun side piece that had me grinning every time we met up with these sweet, wise meddlers.
Though there were few things that irked me overall I was thoroughly entertained. The setting is small town picturesque, the characters are lovable and relatable, and the flow made this novel zoom by in a delightful haze.
