Book Review of 'The Glass Road' by Alyssa Schwarz

Happy Wednesday Bookworms!

We had some crazy hailstorms come barreling through my area first thing this morning, with more severe weather possible throughout the day and, my personal favorite, a severe weather outbreak tomorrow that already has my stomach churning.  Anyone else out there have storm anxiety?  I've been in one too many tornadoes that over the years have wore my nerves down, and tomorrow we could get hurricane-force winds, damaging hail, and a possible tornado outbreak.  I am already praying for everyone's safety.

To keep my mind off the impending weather I am focusing on one of my favorite reads of February 2023 and getting lost in my thoughts of happily every after, and off my weather woes.

The road ahead is full of bends and turns...

Austin Wright had bigger dreams than to inherit his grandfather’s old property, but with the help of his nephew and a few volunteers, he decides to reopen the idyllic summer camp of his youth.

Following her accident at the first triathlon of the season, Tess Prescott’s dreams of the Olympics are shattered, and when her brother volunteers her to work at his friend’s summer camp, she is anything but pleased. Determined to make the best of a bad situation, and to keep herself busy while she recovers, she reluctantly agrees, and ultimately learns the joy of being part of a team.

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, two people must learn to work together if they have any chance of making it through this season of change—even if it means sacrificing the dreams they once strove so hard to protect.

But one unexpected secret could have the power to unravel it all.

My Review

With how much I enjoyed The Glass Cottage I knew  I was in for a treat with The Glass Road, and it did not disappoint.  In it we see Austin and Tess both pursuing their dreams, but neither path is going the way they’d planned.  Tess ends up joining Austin for the summer while she recovers from an injury and what starts out as a slight detour in her path to the Olympics turns into something else entirely.

This novel was one of those stories that I found myself getting lost in the scenery.  The Colorado setting had me swooning in and of itself, but then you add a wholesome story of self discovery and breaking down walls, and it’s hard not to be charmed.

One thing that had me absolutely smitten was seeing Ben and Abigail getting their happily ever after!  The whole scene with their wedding was truly sigh-worthy, but my favorite scene was when Tess was all alone, having a private moment of revelation and freedom within her own heart.  This moment of letting go had a magic to it that  it me right in the feels, making me realize things in my own heart that are burdening me from my own personal freedom.  I wasn’t expecting to have such a reaction to a scene in a fictional novel, but there you go.

Seeing the growth of the characters throughout the novel was satisfying and very true to life, and the sweet happily ever after made it all the better.  Though there is nothing about this novel that makes it initially stand out there is a quiet, unspoken strength that it exudes that I am here for.  I am really enjoying this series and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment.

About the Author

Alyssa Schwarz loves a good story, especially if it has a happy ending! From mountain adventures to Downton Abbey-esque romances, she firmly believes we could all use a little more inspirational and heart-warming tales to keep us up at night—tales that take us on far away (or not so distant) adventures and speak words of life and truth into our lives.

Though Alyssa writes mainly contemporary fiction, she tries to find fun ways to incorporate the past. Whether it’s a family secret, or a century-old journal, history has a way of shaping the lives of her characters for better of for worse. If any of these story ideas sound like your cup of tea, then pull up a chair, take a sip of your favorite drink, and find your next happily-ever-after.
