Genre: Romantic Comedy

I'm the personal shopper for Mr. Grumpy, the grouchiest guy on the planet.

My name is Avery Turner, owner and sole employee of Too Busy to Shop, a personal shopping empire (a girl can dream) for those who simply don’t have time to look for the perfect gifts for their loved ones. I cater to clientele from celebrities to busy moms to business executives. No shopping gig is too large or too small. I excel at finding gifts to delight even your eccentric Uncle Ralph or fussy Aunt Gertrude.

Unfortunately, my shopping expertise is eclipsed by my tendency to attract catastrophe. No matter how hard I try, disaster follows me around.

Wearing mismatched shoes to an interview? Yep, don’t ask. Popping a button on my blouse in front of a hunky businessman? Not talking about it. Driving into a pond? Banished from my mind as if it didn’t happen.

There’s also the small matter of falling for one of my clients. Despite my best efforts, I’m attracted to Mr. Grumpy. The stuffy businessman’s scowls turn my knees to mush, and when he turns those grouchy eyes on me, my heart melts. Every now and then I get a glimmer of hope that he’s attracted to me too. But can I get him to fall for me without setting his suit jacket on fire?

Shopping for the Grump is Book 1 in the hilarious new romantic comedy series, Too Busy for Love. If you love Hallmark movies with the perfect blend of laugh-out-loud scenes and heart-touching moments, this book is for you. Fans of Emma St. Clair, Ellie Hall, and Savannah Scott will enjoy this new series of clean and wholesome stories filled with romance and comedy. This book may be read as a stand-alone.

MY REVIEW

I think we can all agree that everyone has had their share of mishaps. Perhaps some more than others, but overall that’s just a part of being a flawed species. Though mishaps are a major plot point of the story, they is just one way that I found myself endeared to Shopping for the Grump.

If I’m being honest I actually saw a lot of myself in this story, the biggest being Ms. Sunshine and Mr. Grumpy. Anyone that knows me and my husband will attest to the fact that these could be our own monikers, and I’m seriously thinking about adding this name to the list of nicknames for my spouse. I also tend to be more bubbly, like Avery, whereas my husband is the serious, straight-laced one of our pair, like Gavin. I don’t know what it is about this combo but it just works! I also flub up a lot, and have to laugh at myself, something that you see Avery do time and time again. It is who she is and she owns it. I feel you girl!

The overall vibe is chaotic in a cute, Hallmark-sequel way, and is a sweet escape. These are lovable characters that you can’t help but root for that have a realness about them, while also showing off their fun-loving sides. To say this girl is accident prone is an understatement. Walking disaster is more like it, but with her savvy wit and bubbly personality, and the fact that she doesn’t take herself or her mishaps too seriously, you can’t help but be charmed by her.

One of the most touching parts of the novel was actually based off of true events, something that makes it all the more emotional to me. I’m not one for spoilers but trust me, you’ll know when you read it, and I’m sure it’ll touch your heart like it touched mine. It’s a very raw scene that I could definitely identify with, and I know many others will as well, especially if you’re missing someone that is no longer here. I could feel that hitch in my throat as I read this poignant scene, feeling the powerful emotions that the character was feeling. It’s really the only scene with deep emotion (this is a rom-com after all!) but man did Leah nail it!

There are seriously so many great scenes that I wish I could gush about, but I don’t want to ruin the experience for anyone who hasn’t yet read it. All I can say is that it was a breath of fresh air that had me chucking from the first chapter, and the moments I wasn’t giggling I was grinning. If this novel is any indication on how this series is going to be then I am sold: hook, line and sinker!

My Rating: ★★★★★
