Anna Andros, a new Christian, becomes enraptured by the worship leader on stage each Sunday. His love for the Lord appears as solid as his strong muscles on display each week. The attraction is mutual, and Anna is drawn in by his charm.
Meanwhile, she becomes closer to another man, this one a lifelong Christian and family friend. Conflict arises as she is torn between the two men in her life. Is the worship leader as genuine as he seems? Or is the one she has known for years who God has in mind for her?
A crisis at the church puts things into perspective for Anna. Who is the one who will stand beside her? Why is the pastor turning a blind eye to the hurt Anna endured? Will God answer prayers and give Anna the healing and love she so deserves?
MY REVIEW
I was really excited to read Love Unfailing, especially with how much I enjoyed Love Ordained. Both Anna and Tony were characters I really fell in love with, and I was so happy to see them get their own story. Though Love Unfailing can be read as a standalone I feel like it has more impact if you read Love Ordained first, especially when it comes to Gina and Christian.
One thing I forgot about this series is that it’s set in Tarpon Springs, Florida which so happens to be where my mom and stepdad live! Anytime there was something mentioned about the area I got nostalgic, and it made me want to go visit there even more, as it is such a charming area.
One thing that shines bright in this series is the tremendous friendships. They are all there for each other, overwhelmingly supportive, holding each other accountable, and offering encouragement through thick and then. Talk about relationship goals!
There are some topics that could be triggering for some, including postpartum depression, scenes involving physical abuse, and a brief mention of rape. Gina is the one that struggles with the postpartum depression, and after getting to know her so well in the first novel it was hard seeing her struggle as much as she did. She seemed to be snippy and frustrated with everything, which is so not like her, and I hated seeing her go through such a trial.
As far as Anna, the heroine of Love Unfailing, I admired that she is a woman of conviction. She has set boundaries for her relationships, stands on the solid foundation of her beliefs, and is one strong woman. Seeing that strength is refreshing in a romance.
Tony is a man after my own heart. Seeing him pine and have to watch the woman he cares deeply for fall for another was so hard to read, especially when you realize not every character is as they seem. There is definitely a wolf in sheep's clothing that preys on the innocent, which gives the right amount of tension and drama, and helps ramp up some of the slower parts of the story.
One thing that did bother me was the different segments, and different points of view that went back and forth in each chapter. For me, it felt a little disjointed, and was a struggle for me to read for some reason. If this is the writing style that’s fine, but I feel like each segment should go deeper and not be more than a few sentences. It also doesn’t help when you need to put the book down and go back to it later.
I would love to see this series continue, as it tackles some heavier subject matter with sensitivity and grace, and continues to get better and better. Overall it was a good read with a very cute, satisfying, and predictable ending and one novel that I quite enjoyed.
