A veteran in need of a fresh start
will get more than he bargained for…

Veteran Micah Holland's scars go deeper than anyone knows. An inheritance from his mentor could be a new beginning—if he shares the inherited goat farm with fiercely independent Paige Watson. Now the only way they can keep the farm is to work together. But first Micah must prove he's a changed man to keep his dream and the woman he's falling for.

EXCERPT

His eyes roamed over her face, taking in her fair complexion, the smattering of light freckles she chose to cover most days with makeup and her blue eyes that reminded him of summertime. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. Yet she didn’t realize just how much.

“Stop staring at me. You’re making me nervous.” Her eyes remained closed as her words slurred from fatigue.

Laughing softly and despite his longing to stay where he was, Micah pushed to his feet and readjusted the blanket over her. He caressed her cheek. “Get some rest, Sleeping Beauty. I’ll check on you later.”

She nodded, then once her breathing settled into a steady, rhythmic pattern, Micah let himself out of the cottage quietly so he didn’t disturb her.

A plan formed in his head as he considered showing Paige just how good they could be together.

Not just as business partners, but also with each other.

“I’m sorry for everything you’ve gone through.” Paige reached for Micah’s hand and gave it a squeeze. “God has a purpose for you. For this house. And for the men who will be living here.” She tapped his chest. “And it started here. If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t have come home for Ian’s funeral. You wouldn’t be going through all this to get the transitional home set up. You wouldn’t be talking to men like Jerome, encouraging them to take the next step.”

And she wouldn’t need to guard her heart to keep from falling for Micah. Because he was right—they needed to stay on track to meet their goals. And she couldn’t lose sight of that, either, by doing something silly like falling for a man who had a hard time recognizing love in his own family.

MY REVIEW

Talk about an uplifting and emotional story!  His Road to Redemption has all the feels and then some, teeming with depth, charm, and the power of love.

The more I read, the more I fell in love with this story.  When I first picked it up and read a few chapters I wasn't sure if this was going to be my flavor, but I quickly warmed up to the characters, and their unique situation.

Micah and Paige are frenemies that turn into something more after losing someone that was very near and dear to them both.  They both have been through their own challenges in life, one of those leaving Micah without an arm.  I have a soft spot for anyone who has served in the military, especially those that survived combat, so reading about what Micah and his comrades went through hit me right in the feels.  It all felt so real!

The stubbornness of both the lead characters is astounding, but at the same time it’s relatable and completely understandable, especially when you realize it’s a defense mechanism.  It’s easier to handle things on your own than to trust others, and possibly be hurt in the process.  Still, I found myself audibly talking to both Micah and Paige, trying to speak through the pages, telling them both to open their eyes and see the incredible blessings that are right in front of them, not only the support of each other, but both of their families willing to do anything for them.  Their choice to try to do it all on their own was frustrating at times, yet admirable, and watching them both develop and grow in the midst of a tragedy, while also creating two wonderful resources for people in need was so uplifting and inspiring.

The writing is great, and the overall flow makes this novel hard to put down.  Being very character driven, you will find yourself connecting to these relatable characters, and feeling sad when the story ends.  I cannot rave about His Road to Redemption enough, and am proud to say this is my first must read for 2022!
