Book Review: The Facade by Judy Corry

Series: Eden Falls Academy #2
Publisher: Cherry Blossom Romance
Release Date: September 17, 2021
Genre: Contemporary Teen & YA Romance

Everyone has three lives. A public life, a private life, and a secret life.

I’m a junior in high school, and yet, I’ve never been on a date.

Everybody says it's because my overprotective brothers scare all the guys away, but I can't help wondering if there's something wrong with me.

That is, until I hear a rumor that I’m secretly dating my brothers’ best friend.

What?

Sure, I used to think Mack was the most perfect guy in the universe, but I got over that crush years ago.

And even though he teases my brothers about taking me to Make-Out Point, there’s no way he’d actually make good on that threat. I’ve only ever been the dorky girl next door to him.

But when Mack’s sleepwalking episodes lead him to staying a few nights on the trundle bed in my room and we talk and share things we never tell anyone else, I start to wonder if a secret relationship is exactly what I want.

My brothers have made it clear that Mack is never allowed near me. But what my brothers don’t know can’t hurt them, right?

My Review 🖤
I impatiently waited for this book after finishing The Charade and The Facade did NOT disappoint!  I was instantly transported back to beautiful young people of Eden Falls, this time focusing on Mack and Cambrielle.  This book definitely has the fun and witty flirtations, with plenty of high school banter, but it also deals with a child’s struggle watching a parent die from a terminal illness, a topic that gives this novel a depth and touches on a topic that sadly many youth can identify with. Talk about tugging on my heartstrings! There were multiple moments I teared up or literally got choked up. Such a tough subject that Judy did a masterful job of tackling.

This series has a pretty high spice level when it comes to the romance, with some pretty detailed make out sessions, that were pretty cringe for me (I’m just not into all those passionate details, and would rather let my imagination go there and not be told it) so I ended up skimming those moments and only reading the dialogue, but it definitely brought the book down for me.

Despite feeling pretty cringe during certain parts, this read was a heartfelt delight. The chemistry between Mack and Cambrielle is electric, and I loved all the banter between the Eden Falls crew, especially Cambrielle and her brothers. I always wished I had older brothers, and this gave me a taste of what could've been. I also love getting a glimpse of the beautiful people and the lives they live. Oh, to be able to go and right an ATV around my mansion whenever I felt like it. *sigh*

Small disclaimer: though The Facade is marked as a standalone I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you read The Charade first, as reading The Facade first would spoil major plot points that is revealed in the first book. Plus, you get a better understanding of the characters, and are truly vested in them when you begin reading The Facade. But if you choose to read this book first Judy does a wonderful job of catching you up on everything that happened in book one, so whatever way you choose to read this series you will never feel lost.

I LOVE this series, I just wish the spice was turned down just a tad. I also can't wait for April 2022 when we finally get to see Elyse's story in The Ruse! Eden Falls Academy has my heart and I can't wait to hear all of their stories.
