My math tutor has one rule: he doesn’t date the girls he tutors at our private school.
But a fake relationship that’s beneficial to us both? That’s a different story.
Our agreement helps Carter get revenge on his ex while it helps me hide the real reason why we’re spending so much time together. Win-win.
Plus, flirting with the hottest guy at school is kind of fun.
As long as the feelings stay as fake as the show we’re putting on, there shouldn’t be a problem. Right?
The Charade is a forbidden romance about the new girl and the guy who everyone sees as untouchable.
What a great kickoff to a new series from the insanely talented Judy Corry!! The Charade introduces us to Eden Falls Academy, a private school in the picturesque Eden Falls, Connecticut that is full of the most beautiful and educated teenagers. Identical twin sisters, Ava and Elise, are newcomers to the academy their senior year of high school, and are catching everyone's eye. Ava secretly struggles with math, and is assigned a tutor: the insanely hot, yet standoffish Carter. Ava is ashamed of this fact, especially since her sister is great at everything, and Carter's aloofness comes from trying to avoid another broken heart, after being royally dumped by his supermodel girlfriend.
To hide their secrets, Ava and Carter devise a plan: to pretend to be dating, thus taking the focus off of the truth. What they didn't know is that the joke's actually on them, and what follows is a charming and addicting read that I could not put down.
Ava, Elise, and their mother are the "three amigos," which reminds me so much of me, my mom, and my sister; so I instantly identified with Ava. All the characters are super charming, and I was instantly smitten with The Charade overall, though there were several things that did bother me, the first being the incessant talk about sex and the pretty steamy details in several make out sessions, especially since this is geared towards young adults, but I easily skipped these moments and moved on, understanding this is apart of being a teen, but just isn't my cup of tea.
The first part of the book was amazing, to the point that it hurt to put down, but when the major conflict comes into play in the second half I would be lying if I said it didn't gross me out. I won't spoil it, but it is definitely a taboo subject, an incredibly forbidden romance, and one that pushes the boundaries quite a bit, but you can't help reading on to find out what happens. The author does add a note at the end telling why she decided to write about such a taboo subject, which I respected, but it gave me the creeps, and I hope this isn't a sign of things to come in the Eden Falls Academy series.
Despite a questionable subject matter, and some details I could've done without, I couldn't help but devour, and fall in love with, this novel. Judy Corry is the queen of YA in my book, and I can't wait to see what adventures she takes the students of Eden Falls Academy on in future books.
She lives in Southern Utah with her husband and their four children where she is living out her own happily ever after with the boy who took her to her Jr. Prom.
