Genre: Clean Romance

When Adrienne discovers her husband, Seb, has been unfaithful, the illusion of her perfect life is indelibly shattered and she flees.

Nick, a shop owner who suddenly finds himself the center of media attention, follows.

They both escape to Latin America for different reasons. Adrienne is tired of turning a blind eye to her husband’s affairs. Nick trails after her, not only because he’s become an overnight YouTube sensation and he doesn’t know how to handle it, but also because he’s secretly been in love with Adrienne, his cousin’s wife, for years.

Two people with hurting hearts and unrealized dreams explore the streets of Buenos Aires and the South American countryside, and it changes them both forever. And what they find in each other is something that might just heal them both.

This novella was originally published as That Song in Patagonia.

My Review 🖤

A cheating husband, and a life spiraling out of control, sends a wife on a soul-searching adventure that gives her an unexpected revelation, a truth that has been hiding in plain sight for a long time: the admiration of the last person Adrienne would assume.  Nick is Adrienne's husband's cousin, a sweet soul that also has an amazing hidden musical talent.  After a secretly taped video goes viral it sets Nick on an unexpected adventure of his own, and it just so happens to be with the woman he has secretly loved for years: Adreienne.  Will this joint adventure bring these two closer together, or will this revelation tear them apart forever?

While the premise hd me charmed I was underwhelmed with the execution.  When I start a novella I am always leery that I will be satisfied.  Is the story going to feel rushed?  Are the characters and story going to have enough time to develop?  Sadly Runaway Rock Star fell into the novella trap.  I found myself craving more dialogue and development with all of the characters, but especially Adrienne and Nick.  The writing felt disjointed, like thoughts and dialogue weren't fully developed.  I just craved more...

Adrienne and Nick, their personalities, support for each other, and their adventures were enjoyable, but I wish they wouldn't have been "related."  I had something similar happen in my family and it destroyed my family, tearing it to shreds, so I know my experience also heeded in souring this read for me.

I wanted to love this novella so much but sadly it was just ok.  This is one of those books that would benefit from being a full-fledged novel, giving more details for development, and providing room for much needed dialogue.  I don't regret reading it whatsoever, I was just left wanting more.

My Rating: ★★★
