Rebuilding Joy is the second book in the RenoVations series, and is just a cute as the first book! In Heart Restoration we get to see Nick and Lisa fall in love, and now there is a wedding on the horizon!! So, the shift focuses to another Reno sibling, Del, and everyone's favorite proprietor, Darcy. Del and Darcy have a special bond between them, and it was so great to see the two of them shine. Del is such a kind-hearted and protective soul, and Darcy is so strong and independent, that the lighthearted friction between them added to the overall tension of this novel in the most delicious way.
Like in the first novel, amid the happiness there is a dark mystery that is lurking, but this time we get to see things from a unsavory characters perspective. At first, I thought this might make the storyline more predictable, and parts of it is, but it actually deepened the mystery, and lead to several unexpected surprises that I was quite pleased with. We get to meet new characters, catch up with several characters from the first volume, and the balance was sheer perfection.
It's obvious that as this series continues that it keeps getting better and better, which gets me excited! I have bonded with these characters, and this charming town and its inhabitants, and I adore getting lost in this world. The writing in Rebuilding Joy is transportive, showing the true talent of Regina Rudd Merrick, and continues to capture my heart and my imagination.
