Book Review: Her Crazy Rich Ex High School Crush

Series: Crazy Rich Crushes
Publisher: Lange House Press
Release Date: July 2, 2019
Genre: Clean Contemporary Romance

She's on a humanitarian mission. He's the crazy rich guy funding it.
Sage Erickson has finally shed her high school shyness and found something she's passionate about--helping install water pumps in South Africa. The man funding the project is none other than her old crush, and he's interested in more than her plans to educate the villages they bring water to. Which is fine with Sage.

Ryker Campbell always like Sage in high school, although his pride kept him from pushing past her quiet personality. Now she's a tenacious woman who works hard for what she believes in, and he can't help a resurgence of his old feelings. The business trip feels more and more like the vacation romance of a lifetime, but his lavish lifestyle and social connections could prove to be too much for Sage.

As the two rekindle a friendship that blooms into something more, Sage worries that she’s just not cut out for that kind of life. Can they find a way to come together, or will the continents divide them forever?

My Review ♥️

I always have a problem with rich, billionaire stories.  Nine times out of ten they are almost too perfect, bordering on true fairy tale status, and Her Crazy Rich Ex High School Crush is no exception.  I love second chance romances and though Ryker and Sage's story is a little over the top for my taste, it was still incredibly sweet, and both characters are wonderfully written so it's hard to not fall in love yourself.

My favorite part of this book was reading the details of different parts of Africa, becoming entranced by the different terrain of certain regions.  Laura D. Bastian always does a remarkable job of making the setting come alive, putting the reader right there with her characters.

I would've enjoyed less of the sugary sweet perfection and more exaggeration of the tiny dollop of drama that was added near the end of the story, but that's just me.  I prefer to see character flaws and I guess I like my drama.

The ending is satisfying, leaving no question as to the fate of Ryker and Sage, but I did feel it to be a bit rushed.  All in all this is a sweet novel that can easily be devoured and is a perfect summer read.

My Rating: ★★★★
