My Review

When I first started this novel, I had expected to read a few chapters and be done for the night, but I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. I can’t explain what it was that drew me in, but it helped me escape to a happier place than my current situation, and for that, I am thankful.

The Stars Hollow vibes are strong from the get-go as Belle races to her job in the small town of Kringle Falls in the opening scene. In my mind, I saw Lorelei without Rory or the Gilmore’s, which really helped set the scene and that Stars Hollow feel never really left. When Belle’s house is broken into and her puppy stolen, the idyllic story takes a sinister turn as the mystery surrounding the theft deepens. What also grows deeper is the attraction between Belle and Kringle Falls sheriff, Parker Bishop.

The banter between Parker and Belle is charming and comfortable, and seeing them together was sweet, but Belle was a character that I struggled to connect with. Her stubbornness was off-putting, and I felt like humble and helpful Parker was too good for her, but she eventually won me over.

Sprinkled throughout the story are Christmas traditions and treats that have all those cozy, holiday feels that come with the season. The scenes about the ornaments were some of my favorite moments and were such a touching tribute that had me thinking about my own family traditions. While the story is not that deep, it is entertaining and is the perfect novel to read during a busy holiday season.
