HELLO BOOKWORMS!
ABOUT THE BOOK
While renovating the MacKinnon mansion, Samantha Holt discovers three prized ceramics in a wall. The one in a million find could provide much needed funds for the restoration—and her family's struggling auction business. She calls a Chicago expert for a second opinion.
Zachary Reynolds arrives with his five-year-old daughter in tow, intending to leave with the vases immediately. Partly because the pottery won't reach its six-figure potential in a small-town sale, but mostly because the ceramics will secure his job in an impending merger with a larger firm—and he needs that guaranteed stability for his daughter.
Sam and Zach both need the pottery for very personal reasons, but only one can emerge victorious. As they research the history of the pieces and the mansion, however, the best choice isn’t clear-cut. Add in romantic feelings neither of them expected and things become even more complicated. With the odds stacked against them, can they both achieve the financial and personal success they crave?
MY REVIEW
I am a sucker for a good historical mystery and Her One in a Million finds Sam Holt with quite a lucrative one, finding three vases hidden within the walls of the mansion she is helping her best friend restore. It’s a once in a lifetime find and puts Sam in the presence of Zach, a pottery specialist that will turn her world upside down.
From the beginning Zach rubbed me the wrong way. It’s obvious that his selfishness is derived from fear, but that didn’t change the fact that he agitated me at first, but the better Sam got to know him, the more grace I gave him, able to see this flawed character through fresh eyes. Talk about redemption!
Both Sam and Zach are micromanagers out of fear of losing control, of self preservation, which is something we can all identify with. The character development is nice, as is the overall pace, and just like the rest of the series the charm of the small town of Harmony, as well as the strong bond between best friends Sam, Amy, and Hannah is delightful.
This is a squeaky clean romance that is full of small town charm, a touch of faith, and a good, clean mystery that is a sweet escape.
