It is an unseasonably warm day here in Texas and while I am enjoying the sunshine and blue skies I am secretly hoping the cooler weather will be back soon.  My prayers are with all of those in California that are currently dealing with deadly flooding and I hope all of you are having a fantastic Wednesday.

Today I am featuring a nonfiction read that has really spoke to me the past few weeks.  All of us have been wronged at one time or another and when that happens forgiveness comes into play, which makes this an invaluable resource for one and all.

My Review

Forgiveness.  It’s a choice that many of us have to make at one time or another in our lives.  We’ve all been wronged and been through times of misunderstanding and that is when we are faced with an opportunity.  Do we choose to forgiveness or do we not?  If we do how can we really forgive and let go when the pain is still there?

The author does a thorough job of going through different scenarios where forgiveness comes into play, both in the lives of others as well as her own personal experiences, and even Scripture references.  This is a theme that is played out throughout the entire text and really fleshes out these thoughts, driving points home, and piercing the heart.  If we’re honest we all have that one relationship or situation in our lives that is a constant tug of war and reading Captive Set Free was a wonderful reminder of just how burdensome carrying something like this around is for an individual.  It’s time to get our focus back where it should be and this book is a gentle call to action.

No matter what season you find yourself in you will see Captive Set Free as the perfect resource to go along with your daily prayer and Bible study.  It is well written with easy to read text and a great flow.  The chapters aren’t too long, there is not a lot of fluff, and it gets to the meat of the topic with relevant Scripture references and personal stories that bring it all home.  It has opened my own eyes to unforgiveness that has been lying dormant in my own heart and I can see this being a great source for years to come.
