Ginnie doesn’t always think…

…sometime she just acts.

Was it a mistake to stand up to the bully?

Gennie and the bully, Pierce, get sent to the principal’s office. It doesn’t matter if he had threatened her twin brother, Toran, they both are suspended. Two days off school isn’t the scary part.

What will her dad say?

Things get taken up a notch, next. When the West twins and Chandler brothers execute a prank to get back at Pierce, it doesn’t turn out like they’d planned.

What Ginnie sees is terrifying.

Pierce is being beaten by his father.

Bullying is wrong, but now Ginnie has to come to grips with understanding what he might be going through.

How will she handle it?

My Review 💚
Ginnie and the West family are back, picking up a few days from where The Secret Sisters Club leaves off, but starts with quite the interesting blow.  There are some pretty difficult subjects that are tackled in this book, but it is all handled in a wonderful, age appropriate way.  The dialogue is easy for any middle grade child to understand, and the relatability, sadly, in this age of relentless bullying, is major.

I loved how Todd, Ginnie's dad, handles punishments, especially the first punishment that Ginnie has to endure, but what I really admired was how Ginnie, even in her punishment, didn't have to go at it alone.  The West family is what every family strives to be...well, mine does anyway.  The family dynamic is amazing, with truth and love at the forefront, but also teaching lessons, and helping each of the children in the story grow to be a better version of themselves.  I wish everyone could have such a strong support system!

Though Trouble Blows West is part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone but, I will say, reading the first two book in order I was able to really see the maturity and growth in the characters as a whole, which I found refreshing.  There were times that reading about Ginnie's thoughts and actions were difficult for me, and for a time I found myself not liking her character too much, but the author did a wonderful job of bringing my emotions back full circle, which I was grateful for.  I mean, how can you not love Ginnie?

I have really enjoyed this series so far, and did like seeing this book tackling a harder subject matter in such a gentle way.  The balance of heavy and lightheartedness is the perfect blend, and made for a good read.

My Rating: ★★★★
