In fact, whenever she's with Jake, all she wants is to be far away from him. She can't put her finger on it, but something about him makes her uneasy.

When Isaiah moves to the community and meets Martha, their friendship sparks into something more. Their relationship causes conflict and turmoil within the community, includingrumors that erupt into a roaring flame.

When harsh accusations are made, Martha must make a difficult choice.

Will Martha follow her heart or do what her parents expect of her?
My Review ♥️

I was in the mood for a quick read, and since I've been on an Amish kick lately, I picked up The Amish Schoolteacher's Escape, a prequel to the Covert Police Detectives Unit series.  The length was exactly what I was looking for but I must admit that I was disappointed with this novella.  The transitions from scene to scene were nonexistent, making the narrative feel like one long run-on sentence, with only a few chapter breaks, and making the story feel forced and rushed.  The writing seems more on the elementary side, but the story itself is decent.

Poor Martha is mistreated by her stepmother and the arrogant man that wants to marry her, Jake.  Despite being constantly beat down, Martha takes the high road, and hold onto her convictions, clings to her faith, and puts all her passion and focus into teaching.  When Isaiah, the preachers son, arrives in town he brings Martha some much needed peace, and gives her the strength to fight her ongoing struggles.

I really enjoyed the ending of The Amish Schoolteacher's Escape, which prompted me to give this series a chance, and my review for Undercover Amish, the first novel of the series, will be coming later this month.  Though this novella was not perfect, it does set up the series nicely and worth the quick read.

My Rating: ★★★
