The Brave Art of Motherhood

My Rating: ★★★★

Synopsis

Yes, this book is about motherhood . . . but really, this book is about finding yourself again and following your passion WHILE being a mom. Inspired by her incredible story, Rachel's words always come straight from the gut; they are visceral, real and soul searching. She challenges you to find the courage to break cycles, to take off masks and not let fear take control. This book is a balance of tough, "no excuses" ways of approaching life, while allowing breathing room and grace for yourself, for as we all know, life and mothering are not perfect.

After inspiring and conversing with thousands of women, Rachel has surmised there is always a reason to hope, to move forward and a reason to dare doing what you thought was impossible. (Yes, including what you are skeptical of accomplishing right now). She encourages you to say yes to your dreams and stop waiting for "someday" or "one day" or "when something happens".

Prepare to change the way you think about yourself and your life. This will be a book you read over and over armed with a highlighter in one hand and a journal for introspection in another.

My Review

When I picked up The Brave Art of Motherhood for the first time I wasn't sure what to expect but was gripped from the first few pages.  Rachel is so down to earth that it feels like I am listening to a friend tell me about her life and trials.  What I found so funny was I had to keep trying to fit in reading it every chance I got due to my busy mom schedule which was the perfect time to be reading about parenthood.  I read a lot of it while waiting for my oldest son to finish cross-country practice and my youngest son would wait with me.

The entire time I would try to read he would try to talk to me so I made a deal with him: if he let me take a cute picture of him holding the book that I'd put him in my review so here he is my son being goofy and adorable!  I think doing this made the book that much more enjoyable for me to read.

When you read this book make sure you have a pen and highlighter handy.  My copy is filled with colors, little nuggets of wisdom shining from the pages.  The personal stories that Rachel includes throughout the book are relatable in so many ways and is comforting to know that we moms are not alone in this crazy thing called motherhood.

It's so easy for us women to lose sight of who we are as a person because we give so much of ourselves to our children but The Brave Art of Motherhood is a call to action!  To face your fears and find yourself again while still being the best mom you can be.  While it is helpful in so many ways it is also easy to read.  You can fly through this book but there is so much wisdom within these pages I suggest taking your time.  It is a wonderful read and an incredible resource!

Extras

The author has a pretty cool resource that I think you will enjoy!  Music can be such a great motivation so Rachel decided to compile a "Brave Playlist" which you can see a preview of below.

You can also go on the Finding Joy site to find more wonderful resources including Rachel's blog, wonderful articles, and even book specials and bundles if you feel compelled to lead your own book club.  I hope that you use these wonderful resources as well as pick up your own copy of The Brave Art of Motherhood.
